The Disaster of 2011

As expected, the flood of legislative proposals on illegal immigrants has broken off with a formidable flow in the wake of the 2011.

There was concluded in January, had just barely opened the session in the senates and houses of representatives of states, and as the statistics of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) reported that there had been more than 600 resolutions and anti-immigrant measures.

In North Carolina, state Rep. George Cleveland, introduced a bill that vedaría admission of undocumented students at community colleges and state universities.

In Arizona, Republican state Sen. Ron Gould, and his party colleague, state Rep. John Kavanagh, are pushing legislation to deny citizenship to children of illegal immigrants born in the United States.

In South Carolina, Colorado, South Dakota, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee, were introduced bills similar to SB 1070 for Arizona, which criminalizes the undocumented.

It is anticipated that more than 14 states follow the lead of Arizona ignored the issue of citizenship to children of illegal immigrants and that copies of SB 1070 extending the discussion in more than 18 state legislatures.

The enthusiasm of the anti-immigrant

The enthusiasm of the anti-immigrant with the trend is such that the organization Americans for Legal Immigration, ALIPAC, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, launched a campaign called the Battle of the States 2011 to cooperate with the adoption of measures that motivate mass exodus of illegal immigrants.

Data collected by ALIPAC indicate that measures have already been filed against the state "illegal" in: Arkansas, South Carolina, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire , New York, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

During 2010 there were more than 1,400 bills and resolutions state against immigrants with the result of laws passed 208 and 138 resolutions. Ten additional proposals were vetoed.

To understand the extent of anti-immigrant environment along and across the country must take into account that the measures were passed in 46 states and the District of Columbia.

In 2010, 21 states adopted 26 legislative measures to prevent illegal immigrants could obtain driver's licenses or other identification. In 11 states passed 17 laws to restrict immigrants' access to higher education or other educational services. In 20 states passed 27 laws to prevent illegal immigrants succeed in employment or other work-related benefits.

But not only the bitterness is coming from government agencies, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Republican senators Paul Rand, of Kentucky, and David Vitter of Louisiana introduced a resolution that raises seize upon citizenship to children of illegal immigrants born in United States.

Also in the Capitol, but in the House of Representatives, Republican congressman from Texas, Lamar Smith, who chairs the Judiciary Committee, proposed as a solution to unemployment deport illegal immigrants and launch a relentless hunt in places where immigrants work.

Pearl Smith snapped a day after the president Barack Obama called for the legalization of undocumented students and solve the immigration problem with a comprehensive reform during his State of the Union.

I think it is in the hands of the former governor of Florida, Jeb Bush and Republican leadership tolerant, tone down the anti-immigrant flow is dominating the match. A Republican politician as he would have to become the champion of legalizing the 11 million undocumented.

Recently, during an event of the nonpartisan American Coalition of Charlotte, Jess George, the executive director, made an impassioned plea for "sanity" in the debate in the country on immigration. Wisdom is lacking in this tragic 2011.
